Chemistry in the Community is a fantastic course that is designed for students who are interested in pursuing Chemistry-related fields after high school. Units of study include: Materials, Petroleum, Industrial Chemistry, Air, Water, Nuclear, and Food.
Chem. Comm. is an applied course that emphasizes a deep conceptual understanding of Chemistry and uses a career-focused, hands-on, and lab-focused approach to teaching the content. Some of the exciting labs that we will do include: bending, breaking, and blowing glass, creating metal alloys, creating biodiesel, determination of vitamin C in various drinks, making hard sugar candies, and new this year…we will be be exploring biofuel production using corn. We also spend some time exploring careers in Chemistry and look specifically at various industries and companies here in Wisconsin that require knowledge of Chemistry in order to get employment.
Physical Science and Advanced Physical Science
Physical Science comprises the systematic study of the physical world, as related to chemistry, physics, and space science. The topics study in this course include the study of matter, energy and waves, forces and motion, and the universe. This course introduces students to key concepts and theories that will provide a foundation for further study in other science and advanced science disciplines.
